The Des Moines Health Center will continue partnership with the Des Moines Public Schools to provide dental care as part of a Full Service Community School initiative on-site at Scavo High School. With over 72% of the DMPS students being low-income, the focus of this on-site service ties directly to the work of Des Moines Health Center! The primary goal of this project is to increase dental service access to students in Central Iowa. The Des Moines Health Center plans to target uninsured and under-insured students of the Des Moines Public School district; though no student in need of dental care will be turned away for services. The Des Moines Health Center intends to continue ongoing partnerships to figure out methods for transportation for district students that are off-site from the clinic location, in order to eliminate transportation barriers for the students and parents. This will be a primary focus for this 2017 fiscal year.
