DART seeks to reduce barriers to transportation for vulnerable populations living and working within the 50314-zip code of Des Moines by testing a new on-demand service that will expand access to opportunities and supportive resources that can help individuals and families thrive. This pilot program represents meaningful action being taken by DART in response to information gathered from a 2020 Transportation Gaps Analysis that identified a need for more flexible transit solutions for low-income central Iowans. The data and outcomes from this pilot will help demonstrate to policymakers the important correlation between transportation and other social determinants of health while directly informing how future on-demand service is best deployed throughout the regional transportation system.
